About three weeks ago Rassy got a new temporary home. Due to the fact that his parents are in a college dorm room with limited space, Rassy is living in a tupperware until we graduate. He seemed quite happy in his old tupperware, about 35 gallons, which fit nicely under the desk. The temp on one end was about 85 and the other 70, so not quite the difference that it could have been, but with limited resources, it worked. About three weeks ago he upgraded to a 45 gallon tupperware, which still fits nicely under the desk, and gives him about six more inches of space to walk. HE also has some pots growing collards and a lettuce mix, as well as an aloe plant that he will nibble and claw on (he likes walking over it). When we first put him in he was exploring all over, really for the first two/three days he was an active happy tort. Due do the fact that poor college students spent money to buy the tort his new home, for the following two weeks we bought Romaine lettuce, while the pots grew and it is also about a dollar cheaper here. Beginning this week, after the pay check, we bought him the normal spring mix that we fed him before (this was also before break and on break he got romaine, butter and green leaf mix), he moved habitates, and he wouldn't touch it. At all, maybe a nibble, but he would walk to his food dish and walk away. The next day a little was missing, but not the normaly amount my hoover eats. This continued from Sunday to Wednesday, when I finally took some romaine and carrot out of the caf to feed him just to get him to eat. He finished it in about half an hour. So the next day I got a mix of the spring greens and romaine, and he finished the romaine, but not the spring.
So, my question after the long drawn out story, why is my tort suddenly being so picky? Is it the change of habitate and then the constant source of one food, not the other? Or is he just being tempermental and will break down and eat the spring mix sometime soon? Or should I just give him Romaine and wait until after school to worry about him having a better diet? He still gets the TNT.
Hope all is well with everyone elses tort. And other than his pickiness, Ras is his normal adorable self. I told him he was adorable the other day and realized that it was the first time I had really thought of my hard-shelled beast as adorable. Tehe.
Cheers
