Boy I hope the answer to this one is yes....
Hi all,
The area in which I live has underground, burried cable lines, phone lines and electrical wiring, therefore, my torts ONLY stay out when I can watch them and are not "permitted" to dig a great deal ( for some reason the television cable wires are within 5" or so of the surface of our lawn).
So now my question is will my "herd" ever be capable of nesting indoors?
I have a very small male (rescue) named benny who is 4 1/2" in length
Boris (male) who is 5" in length
Nina (female) who is 5.5" in length
Natasha (female) who is 6" in length
I've had both Boris and Natasha for about 4 years now, Nina for 3 and benny approx 1 yr. All have clean bills of health from a Rept specialist vet and are healthy eating machines...The vet even commented that he'd like me to save one of Natasha's babies for him, because of her Blond coloring that he has "only read about in text books"
All are WC, 2 purchased at the same pet store, at the same time, one from LLL Reptile (nina) and the rescue...
Now...the question is, will these ladies be giving me some eggs any time soon? Their substrate is approx 5-6" deep, bed a beast/sand, 50/50 mix, with some timothy hay on the cool end of the tort table.
I've watched the two girls go from scrawny lil' things to the massive ladies they are, both having gone through significant growth spurts while i've had them, Natasha cannot be picked up with one hand she's too wide (not that i would pick them up that way...but you get the point...)
They're on a proper diet of greens and allowed to sun bathe outdoors about 2 hrs a day, when it's warm enough that is (we're in Pennsylvania)
Anyone have any suggestions or comments? or am i just not being patient enough? my babies are wonderful whether or not they breed, but it's rather annoying to know that they've been showing the signs of mating (including screaches) for about 2 yrs and still no signs of eggies....
Thanks again, sorry for the book!
