If you have a PetSmart, you could get a tort there... they don't keep torts in great conditions but they are otherwise healthy, and reasonably priced. That's where I got my RT. Just don't buy supplies there, and don't take their advice on what to get. Go to http://www.russiantortoise.org/ to get your info.

I bought my first adult russian tort from Petco. I believe if you get one from there be ready to nourish it back to health. However, I've heard mixed opinions about petco. I guess it's just based on the location. When I first got mine he wouldn't eat and he was extremely under weight. But, also I didn't have enough knowledge on the housing because I was told it was okay to keep him in a aquarium. But, after reading the care sheet from this site and reading every single past forum topic. He's now in great health and eating like a champ.

All of my Russians came from Petco.  Three I purchased directly from them and 1 when I was there and a guy was trying to donate the one he bought from them, back. He gave it to me.   I've been lucky, they are all healthy, eating well and growing according to scale.  The conditions they were in weren't ideal albiet temporary until someone buys them. I have mixed feelings about buying them there because it seems like they are always stocked with Russians. As long as peeps are there to buy, they'll sell.

Has anyone heard of LLL Reptile?  What about buying one from there.  It's local so I won't have to get it shipped.

I bought my first rt from petsmart and it died exactly 48 hours later. He never ate from the moment he came home. They have a 14 day return policy so thats when I got the female that was there. Other than having to have her treated for pinworms she has been perfect. She's a little piggy and loves to take walks outside. :)

Only buy a reptile at a show until you've checked to see if it's healthy. Described at: http://www.russiantortoise.org

Well I'm mainly going to the show because I was going to go to the LLL Reptile store in Oceanside until they told me they are bringing their torts to the show.  I'm nt ready to buy this weekend, but I just wanted peoples opinions on this shop.
