Mixing breeds
« on: February 28, 2006, 12:53:17 PM »
I have a baby and a juvenile Russian tortoise and I was curious if I could put a baby Spur Thigh (Sulcatta) with them. Their diets and habitat are the same. I'm aware the Spur Thigh will get much larger than the Russians, but for now, can they be mixed?

The diet and habitat are similar....not the same

Mixing of species is not a good idea.

You risk disease, similar to the Eskimos and Indians getting wiped out by diseases that the Europeans built up an immunity to.

There is also a different growth rate.

And sulcata are more aggressive
