No TNT got box turtle dust
« on: October 26, 2006, 07:24:55 PM »
Hi all,
My local petstore doesnt carry TNT so they gave me this stuff called box turtle dust. I was reading the content and its 25% crude protein. They told me to dust my russian torts food with this twice a week..Should I be giving him this stuff..or should I just stick to my regular calcium dust..Unfortunately my pet store doesnt even carry calcium with d3..Thanks for your help..

Hi Joyce,

I was using calcium powder with d3, but switched to TNT after I found out that you can cause damage by giving them too much calcium. I believe TNT is only sold at carolinapetsupply (but I could be wrong about that) and you can order it on the phone or online. I would not give your tort that box turtle dust that has all that protein in it.

Yes, you can feed them rose petals, as long as they haven't been treated with insecticides. I also give mine poppy petals, hibiscus flowers and dandelion flowers (and greens) as these are what grow in my yard. :D

It's the only place you can buy TNT (Total Nutrition for Tortoises). http://www.carolinapetsupply.com/  You can order by phone or online and pay using a credit card, debit card, money order or check.

Its the regular rose BUT....
Don't feed the ones from the florist, they are sprayed with chemicals to make them last longer. Also if you get some from the garden, make sure there are no pestisides. Many gardeners spray the roses as well as use systemic pesticides
