What to do..... What to do......
« on: November 13, 2011, 08:23:49 PM »
Well my male rocky still not eating. In the last week I've seen him
Munching only 2 times and for only a few bites. My female seems to eat good some days and not others. I am having to wake him up every day my female I find roaming around. Their diet is spring mix, collard & turnip greens, and kale. I ordered my TNT and female ate it male didn't I lightly sprinkled it on..... I'm just worried about my little torts.

My female is now being treated for shell rot with joes suggested gentian violet. I ordered a book on amazon to read about reptile parasites. I think I will wait till it comes then try to take a poop sample to a vet.

When I collect a stool sample what do you usually put it in? How long is it good for? And can you take one out of water?

Thx,
Ash

You can use a stool specimen that's been taken out of a water dish.  It can be stored in a Ziploc baggie, or a clean jar or container such as one used for margarine, cottage cheese, etc.  Stool samples should be recent (within 24 hours of your vet appoinment).  After obtaining one, it should be refrigerated until you take it to the vet.

It's a good idea to write your pet's name on the container with a Sharpie or magic marker.  This will help to prevent any mixups at the vet's office, and also to keep family members from opening it when they're looking for a snack!  :o
