LED lights for tortoises?
« on: December 01, 2018, 11:37:22 PM »
I was just wondering:

I have two juvenile Red-Foots, and an adult Russian. I use self-ballasted mercury vapor bulbs for UVB and heating currently (Zoo-Med Reptisun pretty much exclusively, so I missed the T-Rex problems - mostly based on what I can find easily, so I was lucky ;)). I was wondering if, given all the recent advances in lighting technology, there were LED's which could provide decent UVB on the market, or if they were still in the future somewhere? And, does anyone have experience with these?

LED may be good for additional lighting that wont interfee w/temperature as they are cool by comparison but I feel worthless for torts other than to use as addl lite in a room if they can look out to see what is causing noise in the room! My two dont like visual barriers!
