Can Russian Tortoises swim?

Hi! Just curious, can they swim?
Cindy  Please reply to my eight year old son Brandon as Jeff is his and he loves Jeff and wants to find out all about tortoises!

I am fairly sure that they can't. They'd have to keep all that shell above water to keep there head out.

They absolutely cannot swim, they sink like big heavy rocks :o. Jeff sure is cute, I saw her pictures. ;D

My evil ex boyfriend put my RT in our backyard pond when I wasn't looking.  When I ran out there, she was floating on the surface, holding her head above the water.  I quickly rescued her and dumped that loser!

Good decision mototort.  One of the reasons I divorced my ex was how abusive he was to my dog.

Good decision for both joliekat and mototort.  It's only one step further from abusing animals to abusing humans.

Yeah, that's what I thought.  Besides, I think of my dog as my kid so that was bad enough for me.
