I left my husband home alone with our tortoises last weekend, and as soon as I walked in the door, he was excitedly showing me plans he had drawn up to build a new tortoise table.  The plans include using wood stain to make the table match the rest of the wood in our house, and he asked me to double check with you guys to make sure that it won't harm the tortoises in any way to do that.  Basically, he wants to know if we should only stain the outside surfaces or if it's OK to stain the inside surfaces too.

Its OK to stain all of it. Just give it a week to let all the fumes dissipate. On the inside a few coats of polyurethane will help.
